⚡ Become a Swim Official with HHAC

Swim meets give athletes the chance to test their skills, set personal bests, and grow as competitors. Behind every successful meet is a team of certified officials.

In Ontario, officials are trained volunteers—often parents or family members. Without enough certified officials, meets cannot be sanctioned, and swimmers lose the opportunity to race.

🌟 Why Become a Swim Official?

  • Be part of your swimmer’s experience—right on deck.
  • Ensure meets are fair, safe, and fun.
  • Support HHAC’s ability to host and attend sanctioned meets.
  • Fulfill volunteer hours in a meaningful way.

🧑‍🏫 How to Get Started

Step 1: Register

Email our HHAC Officials Coordinator at hhac.clubofficialchair@gmail.com to get your Swimming Canada registration link and instructions.

Step 2: Complete Clinics

Option 1: In-Person Clinics

Attend in-person clinics anywhere in Ontario. Find a clinic that fits your schedule through Swimming Canada’s Learning Management System (LMS):

  • Introduction to Swimming Officiating
  • Safety Marshal Clinic

📅 Check the LMS for dates and locations throughout the season.

Option 2: Online Clinics

Complete the same two clinics online through Swimming Canada’s education platform at your own pace.

✅ Level I Certification

Once both clinics are complete, you’ll be certified as a Level I Official and can volunteer as a Timekeeper at sanctioned meets.

⚠️ Important: While you can volunteer immediately after Level I certification, to advance to Level II roles or take on more advanced responsibilities, you must complete two on-deck evaluations. These evaluations provide hands-on experience and prepare you for higher-level roles.

📈 Advancing to Level II

After gaining on-deck experience and completing your two deck evaluations, you can move into Level II roles such as:

  • Inspector of Turns
  • Stroke Judge
  • Chief Timekeeper

Level II certification opens the door to even more important roles at swim meets.
